Intent:
At Allendale Primary School, we want our children to have inquiring minds, with a fascination in, and understanding of, the world around them, both near and far. We want to equip our pupils with the skills, knowledge and empathy to thrive in whatever lives they choose for themselves. In the modern world, either in Britain or abroad, a central part of this is developing an appreciation of the views and beliefs of others. Therefore, in R.E., we will enable children to learn about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. The children will discover and explore. They will consider questions about how belief affects day-to-day life, its meaning and purpose, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. Pupils will be supported to reflect on their own thoughts, feelings and experiences, to express their insights. The children will be encouraged to agree and disagree respectfully, to recognise similarities and celebrate differences.
Implementation:
Using the Northumberland Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2022-2027, Allendale Primary School aims to develop deepening knowledge and understanding about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews.
The syllabus will be delivered on a rolling three-year programme to ensure progression and even coverage.
R.E. will be taught regularly by class teachers and work recorded in designated books. Opportunities will be sought for RE days, visitors to school and trips to enhance and enrich children’s learning.
Pupil progress will be monitored by ongoing teacher assessment and through the use of school agreed end of year expectations based on the end of phase outcomes contained within the Northumberland Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2022-27
Allendale Primary will seek to work with outside agencies and organisations, such as Northumberland SACRE, to develop and improve the provision and delivery of R.E. throughout the school.
There are no presumptions made as to the religious backgrounds and beliefs and values of the children and the staff. We value the religious and non-religious background of all members of the school community and hope that this will encourage individuals to share their own experiences with others freely. All religions and their communities are treated with respect and sensitivity and we value the links, which are, and can be made between home, school, and a faith community.
Our curriculum is designed with the aim of encouraging creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion and independence.
Impact
The children at Allendale Primary should enjoy learning about other religions and why people choose, or choose not to follow a religion. Through their R.E. learning, the children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life. As such, we consider R.E. as invaluable in an ever changing and shrinking world.
